Our first ARK@S activity of the year was a beach cleanup at Milford. Armed with gloves and sunscreen we each managed to fill a grocery bag with rubbish in only an hour. We then enjoyed a shared lunch in the shade of one of the many beautiful pohutakawa trees.
It’s time for our first Friday Fun Night of the year, this Friday 27 February. To take advantage of the great summer weather we’ll be holding an outdoor games night with a BBQ.

Communion Service This Sunday 22 February
This Sunday is our Communion Service, beginning at 10am and followed by a cuppa at 11am. For those who prefer a quieter, more traditional service, this is for you. Welcome!
Big Day Out Saturday 21 February
Next Saturday is our annual church picnic! Bring food to share and your picnic gear, and come along for some fun!
From 12 noon at Little Shoal Bay (at church if weather bad), BBQ available if you want. Bring picnic rugs or chairs, there will be some gazebos and tables to make life comfortable.
High tide is around 10am if you’d like a swim first.
Contact David if you’d like some more information, or have a gazebo to lend!
This Sunday is Cafe Church, our family-friendly service which starts at 9.30 am with a shared breakfast/morning tea, then the service at 10am. This month we’ll be talking about love. Should be some interesting discussions!
Cafe Church is held on the third Sunday of each month, and has a focus on discussion and interaction. Toast, cereal and drinks are provided, but you are very welcome to bring a plate of something tastier to share if you would like!
On Saturday 14 February our youth service group, ARK@S will be meeting for the first time this year. We thought we’d take advantage of the summer weather and give back to the wider community with a beach cleanup at Milford Beach. Meet at the church carpark at 11am to catch a ride to the beach. But wait, there’s more…
Our shared lunch this time will be on Rangitoto! David has offered to ferry people across to MacKenzie Bay, where we’ll have our lunch and a bit of a wander. Bring your togs if you want to swim! We expect to be back between 3 and 4pm.
Please RSVP to Andrea as we need to know numbers.
This Sunday 8 February is our service of Quiet Reflection. This is one of our more traditional services, starting at 10am and concluding with a cuppa and a chat at 11am. We’d love to see you there!
On Tuesday is something for the adults; Come to Quiet at 7pm. This is our monthly session of contemplative prayer, which includes a short discussion on a reading, a time for fellowship with a cuppa, and of course a period of contemplative prayer. If you have never done contemplative prayer before, we will explain the basics to you before you put it into practice.
Contemplative prayer has much in common with meditation. “The root of prayer is interior silence…Deep prayer is the laying aside of thought. It is the opening of mind and heart, body and feelings-our whole being- to God…During the time of prayer we consent to God’s presence and action within…It is designed to deepen our relationship with Christ.” (Quotes from Father Thomas Keating)
Take some time out from your busy life and find some time to be still with God. You will be very welcome!
This Monday 2 February is our monthly Drop Inn Morning for residents of the Shoal Bay Villa and Regency rest homes. If anyone is able to come along and join them for a chat over morning tea it would be appreciated. It is held in the Lindesfarne Lounge (downstairs at St Aidan’s) at 10am.
The summer holidays are coming to an end, and routines are returning to normal as children get back to school. At St Aidans we are back to our regular cycle of services and this Sunday we hold our first Kids n All service for the year.
Starting at 10am, this all-ages service is great for those who like a more interactive service. It will be followed at 11am by our usual cake, cuppa and a chat. With Waitangi Day approaching, our theme this week is New Zealand. Hope to see you there!
