Encouragement for the Journey
Today is our first Café Church for 2014. Our theme is: Journeys
The word ‘Journeys’ may evoke different thoughts, images and memories in our awareness. Some of our journeys hold a special place within the memory banks of our heart, while others; we would rather push into the furthest reaches of our mind.
Last month I wrote on journeys, and this week I was tempted to copy it and include it again. Resisting that temptation I offer you something new and different.
Those two words are a vital aspect of any journey. Take a moment to think and reflect upon any journey you have taken recently. How was it new and how was it different?
We might think that journeys, just refers to holidays and travelling to some exciting and exotic place. But, journeys may take place within our own suburb, that regular journey we make from home to the supermarket, or to work or school. Yes, it may be along familiar roads and pathways, but I want to suggest, it is always new and if we are particularly aware it will be different each time we travel that journey.
What about the new journey some of our young people make from Primary School to Intermediate and from Intermediate to College. These are very important Journeys that offer a totally new and different experience for those who travel this particular journey.
I want to broaden the idea of journey out into other aspects of our human experience.
How about the journey that some travel when they go into hospital, they find themselves in a very different and strange place or those who have to give up their home and go into care, or those who for various reasons find themselves living alone after a relationship break up or the death of a loved one. These are just a few of the journeys we may take and they are equally real as the journey to some exotic place.
Journey is such an all-embracing metaphor that we may use in the many situations of our lives. Of course the meaning we seek to give that particular experience will be unique to us.
Meanwhile Peace and go well on your many journeys
