This is to tell you how much we enjoyed the anniversary service last Sunday. The cafe format engendered a relaxed atmosphere which encouraged old memories to surface. Participation by the younger members lent a wonderful vitality to the fine warm day.
Janet and I first attended St Aidanís in 1971 and although we resided in Birkenhead had been encouraged by reports of the good job Fred and Elizabeth Bealing were doing. We have not been involved since leaving to retire to Warkworth in 2009.† Both Felicity and Hamish were christened and married in St Aidans. Janet was involved with the Sunday school, fireside group and the activities committee. I was variously treasurer to the Parish and Presbytery. Lesley Gray was our choir mistress for many yearsand we mounted many musical offerings. These included recording for TVs Praise Be on several occasions. We had a panel of 4/5 organists from which to draw, replacing dear Madame Morris who had single handed coaxed music from the peddle driven bellows organ. Fund raising took many formsand Bruce Hay and others organised the Annual Church Fairs. We enjoyed periodic visits to and from our neighbour churches, St Marys, St Lukes and St Johns. As well we provided music services to North Shore Hospital and Lady Allum Home. These are just a few of the activities Janetand I have been involved with over the years.
Working through the alphabet on Sunday was a great ideaand we applaud and thank you for presenting such a well-balanced service.
