Quotes and Quips – August 2017

Quotes and Quips
A little girl was sitting on her grandfather’s lap as he read her a bedtime story.
From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his
wrinkled cheek.
She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again.
Finally she spoke up, “Grandpa, did God make you?”
“Yes, sweetheart,” he answered, “God made me a long time ago”
“Oh,” she paused, “Grandpa, did God make me too?”
“Yes, indeed, honey,” he said, “God made you just a little while ago.”
Feeling their respective faces again, she observed,
“God’s getting better at it, isn’t he ?”

Grace Notes – August 2017

Welcome back to ‘The Informer’ and welcome too, to GraceNotes.
A big thank you to Barbara for consenting to be editor, this small but vital link to our St.Aidan’s family.
Pat and Colin
spent an enjoyable few days in Whakatane with Pat’s brother. They were able to observe at
close quarters the destructive storm that hit the country in mid July. The thunder of the huge waves was
even drowned out by the howling of the wind.
Yvonne’s niece Wakana, is in Japan where she hopes to find work teaching English.
Cathy’s
mother-in-law will be celebrating her 100thbirthday in Rotorua next month.
Tom and Sam
have returned to their studies. Tom, studying Design at Massey and Tom studying
Economics in Otago.
John and Fiona
attended a Ball to celebrate the Scottish Country Dancing Clubs of the Auckland
region’s 60th anniversary. The Ball was held at St.Cuthberts with an excellent band from Australia.
Darius
spent some of the holidays doing a course with St.Johns. He is studying at Takapuna Grammar
with the thought that he would like to work towards a career in Aerospace Design and Technology.
Marion’s
daughter Elise was home recently on her way to a speaking engagement in Australia. Currently
Elise is with her Chamber Choir at the 11th World Choral Symposium in Barcelona – one of the two
invited choirs. The next one of these events will be in 2020. Check out the NZ Choral Federation website
for further information. This is a significant event for NZ.
Andre and Helene
send greetings from a warm and sunny Hawaii! We have been here for the past month
and have had Karen, Johan, Paul and the girls all spend some time here as well. It has been a very lazy
and laidback lifestyle: Breakfast, beach for a long swim, shower and tea. Then some reading,
embroidering or knitting, lunch, nap and more of the same. We were fortunate to see a turtle swimming
very close to us one morning which is very unusual on such a busy beach. The girls enjoyed the shopping
and Karen took them to all our usual haunts for bargains. We will be back early in August and look
forward to seeing you all then.
Edith
On reflection, despite the cold and wet, June and July have been exciting months sportwise and we
all had a lot of fun with the America’s Cup and the Lion’s Tour.
As mentioned at church, Mayrion Meacham had a happy 90th birthday party with her family at Evelyn
Page Village. She looked lovely and enjoyed seeing everybody.
For Edith it was great to make contact with English rellies now living in Christchurch. Promises all round
to keep in touch.
The Fyfe clan had a wonderful family gathering at Clevedon on the SUNNY DAY in the holidays. Niko
celebrated his 4th birthday (already having been to Chipmunks): Harry (22) was home from Franz Josef
where he is a guide, taking tourists by helicopter on to the Glacier (crampons required): Baxter (18)
returned from a workshop at Queenstown with a view to applying for a hotel/chef training: the Australian
contingent was over and the NZ families were all there, including four under f g.g.children. The hearing
aids got a pounding with happy noise.
A big thank you to all who supported the Operatunity fund raising concert in June.
