Book of Hope – July 2013

Book of Hope

From Anne Dowall and Karalyn Reid  Albury/Pleasant Point Parish

Some of you may remember that our Parish has published two books over the past four years, “Fuel for the Soul” and “I Saw Love Today”.  Each of these books was the result of a nation-wide writing competition.  They attracted several hundred entries from which fifty were chosen for each book.

Following requests from readers for a third collection, together with a perceived gap in the market for a book of hope for those people touched by cancer, the group are calling for new submissions of writing – this time with a message of hope and encouragement. They want to encourage those that have had past experiences with cancer (themselves or with friends or family members) to put pen to paper and tell their story in a positive and encouraging light.

We are working in close cooperation with the South Canterbury Cancer Society in this new venture.

We are asking for submissions with a ‘hope’ theme. We will select a 1st ($250 cash prize), 2nd ($100 cash prize) and 3rd ($50 cash prize). We will select fifty or more pieces of writing to publish and launch the new anthology in early 2014. Entry forms and more details are available by emailing Anne Dowall (03) 6147324, anne.alf@clear.net.nz or Karalyn Reid/Joyce (03) 6147858, karalynjoyce@xtra.co.nz.

Limited numbers of “Fuel for the Soul”, and “I Saw Love Today” are still available by sending a cheque (made out to ’Albury/Pleasant Point Presbyterian Parish’) for $20 (two-for-one special price), plus $2 and postal details to Yvonne Gray, 16 Runa Terrace, Pleasant Point, South Canterbury.

Pleasant Point writer and leader of the anthology team, Karalyn Reid/Joyce, encourages people to have a go – they don’t need to be published writers. She expects this book, like “I Saw Love Today” with its love and earthquake-theme, will truly touch the reader.

The competition closes on 31st August.

Anne Dowall

Please note we have a Parish Facebook page “Pleasant Point Presbyterian Parish N Z” where regular updates on this venture will appear.
